2008/2009 Interim grants and funding programme
Update: 30 September 2008
The Commission has announced it will embark on a public consultation to determine the future of its permanent funding programme. Read our press statement for this announcement.
About the grants and funding programme
Section 17 of the Equality Act 2006 allows the Equality and Human Rights Commission to give financial assistance to organisations concerned with promoting equality and diversity, good relations and human rights.
The 2008/2009 Interim Funding programme has been made available to provide access to support for eligible organisations. To receive funding, organisations were asked to explain how their projects would achieve real and meaningful change and demonstrate their capacity to deliver this.
Consultation
The Commission recognises the valuable work previously supported by the legacy commissions (Commission for Racial Equality, Disability Rights Commission and Equal Opportunities Commission) and is committed to engaging stakeholders in the development of a longer term grant funding strategy and programme. In order to achieve this, a consultation exercise will be undertaken during late 2008. A call for applications for the 2009/10 funding programme is now expected to go out in May 2009.
For further information on how to get involved in the consultation please email the grants team: grantsconsultation@equalityhumanrights.com
Last year the Commission announced details of its interim grants funding programme where we invited organisations who promote equality and diversity, good relations and human rights to apply for financial awards.
Awards
The Commission has now announced its awards for the 2008/2009 programme. Funding has been awarded for three priority areas: promoting good relations, promoting equality and human rights and supporting the development of legal casework.

For the 2007/08 programme, funded organisations are required to complete the End of grant monitoring questionnaire and return it to the Commission by 20th May 2008. Guidance notes are also available.
