Developing our work

The Commission was created by bringing together that had responsibility for promoting disability, race and sex equality in Britain, and combining this with other equality and human rights issues.  There were no similar commissions set up to tackle discrimination based on sexual orientation, religion or belief, or age, when anti-discrimination law was introduced for them.  This means we don't have a similar body of work to build on in these areas.

We are, therefore, looking at ways to build up knowledge and develop our work in these 'new' areas.  We are finding ways to consult and collaborate with other agencies and organisations who have an interest in these areas, so that we can build on their knowledge and advice.

You can find out what we've been doing to build up our work in these areas in this section.
